FreePeople - HustleHard EP Review

Rating: 4 out of 5 Stars

All too often we are approached by local artists begging us to buy their CD for $5. Most of the time, we pop it in and all we hear is trap beats and dope talk, which brings me to this next group "FreePeople," who are a breath of fresh air to the game we call hip hop. Music is about evolution and FreePeople brings that to you in their EP titled "HustleHard." I thought I was going to hear a bunch of guns and dope game talk, but I was wrong and fairly impressed, almost blown away from the sounds, vocals, and instruments of this EP! They have crossed 90's R&B with a Black Eye Peas/The Roots type of sound we are truly missing from hip hop. To start, the production is LIVE, not just fruity loop-based beats like most artists; you can literally hear every drum tap, lol. "HustleHard" is a dope song with real life lyrics anyone can relate too. I think the best quality song is "Love Song" I can see it being a real indie radio hit! But I must say the over-use of Auto tune somewhat kills the sound of the EP but not the quality of the music. I see this group signing with an indie label and giving REAL hip hop heads and 90's music era lovers something to become a fan of!
